The wine related ramblings of a guitar slinging hard rocking music tragic wine entrepreneur with a thirst for adventure and a passion for travel!
Monday 22nd October 2018…
Whats blasting through the speakers at the moment: “Mmmm, Seether! South Africa’s biggest international rock music export. Love these guys, music to get you pumped and moving faster. I find a solid tempo helps churn through the workload”
Today’s Status: “Knackered! Ran the hugely successful Thinkers & Drinkers event on Friday night in the city, so today is clean up, pack up and admin heavy”
Highlights for today: “Well, i have a car full of wine that i wasn’t going to throw out after the event – bottles with half a glass etc. About to write up some notes to share with everyone as its not every day… in fact scrap that – these wines are ultra rare and never make it into the domestic market, what an opportunity!
Lets get into it!
Christopher Waters (Canadian Judge) described this wine as being in a “Juicy port style”
|Intensity||Good intensity – dark fruits, dense, vanilla|
|Complexity||Layers of flavour, lots happening in this wine|
|Comments||Its big. At 15.1%, this needs a chunk of meat on a BBQ. Rich and robust, and very pleasing indeed.|
Review #2 – Ravenswood Single Vineyard Old Hill Zinfandel 2015 – Sonoma Valley, USA
Christopher Waters (Canadian Judge) described this wine as “Juicy. Generous. Roasted and rustic. Earthy”
|Intensity||Great intensity – dark fruits, cedar, dark chocolate.|
|Length||Like a bell…. keeps going!|
|Complexity||Brooding & layered. Lots of complex flavours from both the vineyard and the winemaking.|
|Comments||This is next level. Rich palate with fine tannins – It is hiding many of its charms, but juicy and full of charms that will no doubt reveal themselves with time. Delicious.|
